The National
St. John Council, formed in 1952, is the executive body in the development of the
work and the overall control of St. John activities in the Republic of Singapore.
The St. John Ambulance Brigade is a uniformed body of qualified men and
women who have the necessary qualifications in first aid examinations and wish to be
banded together and uniformed, to preserve their knowledge by continuous practice.
The St. John Ambulance Association, however, is responsible for the
instruction in First Aid, Home Nursing and other subjects. The Association and Brigade
work together to contribute to the well-being of each other. Additionally, the Association
also looks after the first aid and nursing examination and re-examination of the Brigade.
Our Member pledge:
We, the members of the St. John Ambulance
Brigade, do hereby solemnly vow and pledge, that we will be loyal to the President of the
Republic of Singapore, and to the Chief Commissioner, and to uphold our motto, in the
service of mankind.
The St. John divisions in Singapore are
subdivided into zones (10) and divisions (school-based). Our division is the Chinese High
School, located in Zone 7.
As at present our division has 61 members, all males. Of these, 17 are NCOs
(Non-Commissioned Officers) while the rest are cadets. Our main duty is to provide the
school with public duty services when needed in events which may have casualties, such as
the weekly Morning Jog. We also strive to acquire more and preserve our knowledge of first
aid, as well as ways to apply it (e.g. transportation-of-casualty). In addition, as a
uniformed body we also learn about footdrill and discipline.
